Inaugurating the revamped Khelo India School Games right here on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned it was step one in the direction of making the nation a robust contender on the Olympic degree. A revamped model of the unique National School Games which used to have two members in each self-discipline from every state, Khelo India will see 16 athletes in every self-discipline. It will even characteristic solely eight disciplines which have been recognized as more than likely to win medals on the Olympic Games.

“The best athletes will be given the best training and the best coaches. If needed we will send them abroad for better training,” Modi mentioned on the launch of the match.
The greatest 1,000 athletes on the Khelo India Games will get scholarship of Rs 5 lakh yearly.
“This is to ensure that sportspersons from poor backgrounds are not forced to give up sports due to lack of funds,” the Prime Minister mentioned.
